Feeble Attempt at Serenity

Feeble Attempt at Serenity

The intense light keeps me awake
Sunlight not a problem, but these are fake

Loud boisterous noises pierce my attempt
Pull the cover over, hardly a sound proof tent

In my own little land
Oblivious to what’s going on
Thinking out load pen in hand

I continue my writings pen to paper
The letters & words building a sky scraper

Use my concentrations to feed my brain
It’s the most useful method to hide my pain

For now I’m contained to this little house
Noisily I fill this paper, with ink I douse

Although on the inside played like a pawn
Once I get out, I know it’s on
To live my life free, is where I belong

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

The night is Christmas eve
St. Nick will be here,
or so I believe

We wrapped the finally gifts
Patiently we waited,
for Santa in shifts

Gather with family to sing Christmas cheer
Drank eggnog for once
 rather than beer

Yule log burning with urgent desire
We snuggle down with friends
To get close to the fire

We made a tray of cookies for Santa
An apple for Rudolph
Whispered “Quiet! Did I hear a someone cough?”

Finally we went off to sleep
In hopes of presents
We may keep

With visions of toys dancing in or head
We couldn’t wait for morning
To get out of out beds

Morning came quickly enough
But waking mom and dad at five thirty
Was awfully tough

We got started opening our stockings
Little by little we tore into each
Looks on our faces very shocking

So Santa had eventually came
In the middle of the night
Left us presents by name

And to everyone who reads this
It’s my pleasure
Have a wonderful Christmas

Four Seasons

Four Seasons

As summer to fall
Come crowded beaches & all

From hot to cool
Goes to an empty pool

Trees turn bare
Crisp clean air

Flowers will die
Snows in endless supply

Grounds covered in white
Changing seasons a delight

Cookies being baked
Only for other to sample & take

New things come alive
Spring times a wonderful surprise

Showers from up above
Set free a new born dove

From winter to spring, come summer & fall
The world is great, four seasons and all

Food For Thought

Food For Thought

Who is thought and why must we feed him?
I wish thought was real, I’d really like to meet him

I think up words and write them down
Sometimes they’re happy, sometimes I frown

Use words to enhance your mind
Use them right to get out of a bind

Use thoughts as a path to be traced
Your brain is a terrible thing to waste

Know the difference between fact and fiction
Pick up a book and fill your prescription

Make wise decisions in your readings
After all it will save some beatings

Your brain is lake a tool
You have to fill it, to be less a fool

As contempt as a fish in a bowl
Sit back and take time to enhance your soul

Mind Games

Mind Games

Time goes by ever so slowly
Our hopes & ambitions soaring so lowly

The time is passed with games we play
Indulged in Scrabble, Uno, and spades all day

Others drown themselves in meaningless books
Sometimes the titles receive weird looks

The best way to pass the time I find
Is get pen & paper and come up with a rhyme

Spend your time any way you can
For ever decreasing the time to span

How quickly the days will go by
Soon you’ll be set free, to go out and fly

Blank Stare

Blank Stare

Paper in front of me totally blank
My mind starts to work, like a vocabulary bank

I sit and think for a few
My pen started writing, and out it flew

So many words coming from everywhere
I write them down without even a care

More & more they start to flow
Where they come from, I don’t know

It just happens all of the sudden
My mind goes wild and starts a floodin’

I jot them down as quickly as I can
I loose track of time that’s span

It’s a good way for me to spend my time
Just sit back and come up with rhyme after rhyme

Good Intentions

Good Intentions

I’ve paved a road with good intention
Which my last poems have neglected to mention

I try to take care of everyone
But often forget to look out for number one

No one else is going to do it for you
Don’t hold your breath, you just turn blue

Even when you have a good plan
You have to stick to it the best you can

Sometimes it’s hard to keep on track
But think of all the money you can stack

No matter what comes your way
Do what’s right, that’s all I can say

Lead you life wisely, yesterday, today and tomorrow
For time is surely something you cannot borrow

I Must Not Stay

I Must Not Stay

I must not write of our candlelight

I must not speak of our soft delight

I must not say

I must not try to hold your eyes

I must not prize this life's surprise

I must not pray

I must not shake your castle wall

I must not take this feathered fall

I must not stay

New Life

New Life

The thunder rolls
Rain fills holes

Lightening a flashin’
Loud noises a clappin’

Winds blow hard
Breezes cover the yard

Mud starts to slide
Rains to subside

Clouds begin to clear
Sun pokes out about near

The end of a shower
Brings life, a new born flower

High Noon

High Noon

The sun gets high
Almost to the middle
Of the baby blue sky

The dew is fine
Most of the leaves
As green as limes

Listen to the creek
As it passes by
Babbling from a peak

A single fish splashes
The color of gold
Shimmers and flashes

Geese land in the lake
To use the water
A bath to take

From here through noon
The sun is bright
Eventually eve come soon

The Devil In Me

The Devil In Me

I want to look in the mirror and recognize my face
Don’t put me back,

in that God awful place

Send me to rehab, far, far away
Eventually to come back a changed man,
At the end of the day

I’ll never understand the department of corrections
It’s an anomostic place,

full of miss-directions

Jail doesn’t teach you what not to do
It’s life with criminals,

unable to construe

I’ve been blamed for things , that I’ve done
When influenced by alcohol,

skitso I become

The devil takes over and my morals they flunk
I’m not the same person,

when I am drunk

I’ve done my research, my theories are true
I am not in control,

when the things I do

When I am sober, I put this in writing
To remember the other half,

the battle I’m fighting

Please believe I hate this useless hack
I wish this person away,

and never come back

How can I possible survive his wrath
I want to control it,

take the right path

Please see through the despair and shame
Never again will I be the same

I’ve lost battles, but will win this war
To get my life back now, and forever more.

Dawn of Day

Dawn of Day

Hear a cricket chirp
The coffee pot on
A single perk

The sun's a risin’
Off to the east
A foggy horizon

A deer out back
Exploring around

 an early snack

A squirrel darts up a tree
To get a better view

 to show off for me

Morning's coming to an end
See the rays
Peer around the bend

A vibrant start
To a day that is
Morning to part.

The Life I Want: Clean & Sober

The Life I Want: Clean & Sober

Yet again I’ve slipped back into a hole
Only now I must come clean and cleanse my soul

Why do I do the things that I do?
There’s no one to blame, but my disease for the brew

I’m an alcoholic and this I know
I need help, so rehab I’ll go

When I drink I’m a different person
I black out till morning, this is certain

I know my family is behind me
But getting to the point, they may disown the

I’ve been giving more than one chance
A drinking problem I have, the truth I dance

The next day I don’t remember anything
It’s guilt in my stomach, the sickness I bring

I haven’t done anything worth taking my life
I want to grow old some day, maybe kids & a wife

I’ll do whatever it takes to make this right
But please don’t make me sit in hell for one more night

I’ve turned to god many times before
Asked him for forgiveness, to settle the score

I’d give up my life to stay out of jail
My life is credit, I’d use it as bail

Please don’t make me go back again
I’m following God, my only true friend.

Literal Vomit

Literal Vomit

My mind is open to any suggestions
To get any input would be a blessing

My mind runs around in little circles
Until my face turns three shades of purple

You ever wonder what we’re after?
Life’s an open book, a self writing chapter

Pen to paper faster than a comet
It comes out like literal vomit

Quickly I write, pen in hand
Sometimes “I” often think my writings are bland

But again & again you read the next one
Every single poem , until you’re done

Where does it take you, no one knows
Like lost in a corn field, endless rows

But as long as I write, my mind will stay sane
And for this, I’m grateful, and shall not complain!

WHERE ARE THE SOLDIERS

WHERE ARE THE SOLDIERS

Where are the soldiers who march in line?
Where are the soldiers every color and kind?
Where are the soldiers who made their moms cry?
Where are the pilots who face death in the sky?

Where are the soldiers born brave of heart?
Where are the girls and boys that part?
Serving our country with their future on the line
Battling the enemies of freedom of mind.

All of us are soldiers with missions of our own
We do what we do as history is sown.
Support our troops who we love and adore
Support our troops with prayers, letters and more.

Where are the soldiers so far, far away?
How many will perish no one can say.
Where are the soldiers we love night and day
Deployed world over to keep evil at bay.

A Self Reflection Poem

A Self Reflection Poem

At times I sit and ponder
And my thoughts begin to wander
I look forward with my eyes to what I see

Brooding thoughts of thunder
My heart begins to wonder
What it is that I’m supposed to be

So, I observe this world around me
And in truth it does confound me
Though my searchings fail to make things any clearer

These eyes that feed perceptions
May be skewed, and need corrections
I imagine as a step up to my mirror

Then a thought did strike upon me!
Realized sweetest irony
That what we see with we can never see

But one may use reflections
Handy tools in soul dissections
To gaze into the gaze that one calls Me

And though the vision may be backward
And its message slightly awkward
It says, “I am what I am meant to be.”

And that will have to be enough.

To Serve, To Protect

THEY SERVE TO PRESERVE

They serve to preserve our forefathers dreams,
Prayers, visions and determination.
Risking all in pursuit of fulfillment of duty
To God, freedom, faith, honor and nation.

Despite dismemberment, death and loneliness
Patriots enlist to safeguard our flag.
With honor, faith, purpose and courage
They battle the sadistic that brag.

Throughout man’s past as a creature of earth
War has always plagued his expectance.
Greed, hate, fear, envy and rage
Have overruled rapture and repentance.

David was a soldier who lived by his faith
Which gave him the will to become brave.
He stood up to terror and toppled the giant
Leaving Goliath headless and alone in his grave.

David’s call thrives in hearts of soldiers today
Shielding liberty from the warmongers of hell.
Facing down evil refusing to summit
Ensuring freedom and justice are alive and well.

Those of us blessed by the safety of home
Must remember the sacrifice of the few.
Run up your flag and show your support
For the heroes of the red, white and blue.

TOM ZART’S STATEMENT of FAITH

TOM ZART’S STATEMENT of FAITH

The Bible is our Lord’s infallible Holy Word
Of supreme authority in one God’s law.
Eternally existing in three persons of faith
The Father, the Son and the Spirit without flaw.

Jesus was conceived by the virgin named Mary
To soldier divine majesty, grace and reward.
He died and rose to be at the right hand of God
As our negotiator and passage to the Lord.

All men are lost and face God’s judgment
Along with their need to heed to the glory of His Son.
Who suffered the cross to save man’s soul
And to put the angles of darkness on the run.

Christ rose from the dead and is coming soon
And we must have concern for the hurts and needs of all.
Dedicating our lives to the service of our Lord
Whose authority and divine rule becomes our call.

We must use every means to spread the promise of grace
Throughout our world of corruption, greed and crime.
God always expects us to overcome our transgressions
Testing our faith and resolve through the passage of time.

POETS ARE THE BELL RINGERS of THE SOUL

POETS ARE THE BELL RINGERS of THE SOUL

Poets as a rule are high on adventure
Like wondering bards or prophets today.
Embracing hearts and minds with wisdom
Casting through verse their visions at play.

Poets have their dreams and their nightmares
Of love, life, death, faith and war.
They feel the pain and tragedy of others
Even those they’ve never met before.

They fan the flames of human compassion
With their stories of the failings of man.
Professing to follow a higher power
As they recruit whomever they can.

Poets are the bell ringers of the soul
As they depict the past, the present and beyond.
They sound their alarm of what lies ahead
As the missteps of man live on.

Babies

Babies

I fathered babies
and gave them my love,
believing them to be
gifts from above,

receiving in return
wonder and awe,
and glimpsing a heaven
without a flaw

where purity and innocence
blends to mesmerize
with stunning clarity
through big brown eyes

and luminous black pupils,
like mirrors they shine,
capturing without effort
every curious mind,

answering without words
every question we find,
flashing ancient secrets
like a neon sign.

Different Strokes

Different Strokes

When we are all just two legged mammals

Why do some people act like animals

Does it simple have to do with global position

Or are morals lost in recent transition

Is it a thoughtless act, like bees to honey

Does it have to do with the amount of money

I we all had the same amount of respect

We’d all get along, or so I’d expect

People are treated the way the are

Due to the fact that they’re under par

Truth be told if we’re all the same

Same things go on with no one to blame

But the way we are, we blame the poor

After it all it seems to settle the score

Bad people

Bad people

Think about what makes people tick

What goes on in their minds to make them sick

The world is a funny place I know

Wonder what’s the difference between friend or foe

Well let me tell you what I think

Keep your eyes open try not to blink

First they’re people that are born this way

They walk around not caring what they say

Second there are a breed called thieves

The steal others things to suppress their needs

Last is a group that we all love to hate

These are the people that kill, molest and rape

I wish I could conjure up a spell

Take all these people and send them to hell

But for now I’ll just have to wonder

Why humans rob, pillage and plunder

Gideons

Gideons

Help in time of need

This is from the book which I read

You say you can’t be saved

After reading this Psalm, you’ll have to rave

The twenty third of this simply states

That I will be protected by the greats

I shall dwell in the house of the lord

If I don’t, this life I can’t afford

I read this book and take it seriously

I stay up all night and translate deliriously

My life should be forever by the book

If not then my ass for sure shall cook.

Leaving You

Leaving you

I wake up next to you in bed

Comb your hair, and pet your head

As you slowly open your eyes

I’m here to stay, you soon realize

Half awake you flash me a smile

Just to let me know, you’ll be here a while

As we lay hand in hand

Us together just as we planned

I caress you neck and kiss your cheek

It’s not like I’m leaving you for a week

I can’t bare the though of leaving

Won’t be able to take the pain and grieving

But I must leave for a little time

When I get back you’ll soon be mine

Dreams

Dreams

You ever have one of those dreams

Wake up wondering what it means

You try to remember the important parts

But out of you mind, it quickly darts

You hope if you go back to sleep

The visions of the dream will soon repeat

You try and try with no success

The details have left, a blurry mess

Your eyes wide open, mystery to crack

Maybe next time you sleep, they’ll come back

Minds eye

Minds eye

What most people don’t want to believe

In my minds eye I can see

I’ve been told my veil is thin

For that I can see spiritual kin

Sometimes I feel something weird

To most people energy and ghosts are feared

I’ve learned to channel my visions

To tell people about them is my decision

It happens all of the time

Sometimes it shocks me, sometimes I’m fine

It happens in the weirdest places

Like next to me at the florist buying vases

Why did these spirits have to chose me

I’ve gotten over the burden, it just has to be

Though most people are often skeptical

I am proof of a living receptacle

Times up

Times up

My time is soon to come

Where I’m free to go, to and from

My thoughts are so happy, I confess

To be relieved from this burden of stress

Outside is where I belong

My reason here hasn’t been wrong

I’ve done my requested time

Learn not to repeat my crime

My stay will soon be up

As the last few drops in a cup

Once out I’ll leave this state

Start my life over, clear the slate

Dodged a bullet, saved from a knife

All I want is a second chance at life

Angel of Mine

Angel of Mine

A poem for my sweetest love

A beautiful angel, gift from above

Oh so bad, I miss your smell

To be caught again in your spell

Your body I will caress

To relieve built up stress

Sitting in this cell makes me mad

I want you now, I want you so bad

To hold you once more in my arms

Not to be woke, to breakfast alarms

Soon again we’ll be together

As two love birds, flock to feather

Brain Freeze

Brain Freeze

I sit in my bunk and contemplate

I want to write but hesitate

My mind begins to go blurry

Pen in hand my writing all slurry

I can’t imagine why my pen won’t crank

The longer I sit my mind goes blank

I seem to be losing it man

Trying to think, anything I can

I wish my mind would go clear

My brain won’t work, I begin to fear

How long could this possible last

All of the sudden it comes back with a blast

I guess it was a temporary loss

Head fills with thoughts, to show me who’s boss

To my brain, my bodies a host

Losing my mind scares me the most.
